這句校訓是摘自於舊約聖經的箴言第十八章15節。全句是 “聰明人的心得知識．智慧人的耳求知識” 英文是“The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. ” (King James version) 。這句話是1890年被Emory University引為校訓

中文意思是：“我還有未盡的話．凡是真實的、可敬的、公義的、清潔的、可愛的、有美名的．若有甚麼德行、若有甚麼稱讚、這些事你們都要思念。” 腓利比書是在西元一世紀，在羅馬帝國殖民統治時期，聖使徒保羅寫給腓利比教會基督徒的勉勵。
